EDC – Every Day Carry

EDC is an increasingly common abbreviation for Every Day Carry. In it’s simplest definition it means the things you carry every day, like car keys, a phone and maybe a pocket knife. EDC items are those that you carry in your pockets or in a reasonably sized bag that you use to accomplish daily tasks. The items vary depending on what a person does on a daily basis.

Because of this, EDC will tend to be very personalized to the individual. There is normally an emphasis on quality items that will function reliably, but disposable items like latex gloves are often found in an EDC bag. In some cases, EDC items will be fairly expensive, high quality items with an emphasis on lightweight but strong materials such as titanium and carbon fiber.

Most EDC items are selected to provide the user with a sense of preparedness and capability. These items will often be things that are a little bit overkill or unique, and EDC gear tends to constantlybe in a state of evolution as it is tailored to the user’s requirements and preferences.

Common EDC items are listed below:

  • Folding knife
  • Multitool such as a Leatherman
  • Wrist watch
  • Flashlight
  • Cell phone
  • Pen, pencil
  • Pocket notebook
  • Medicine
  • First aid kit
  • Paracord

EDC items often cross into tactical items such as larger knives, handguns, and pens that double as striking weapons or kubatons.
